Christmas came early for our Marketer & UX Specialist, Joey Allan, as he got together with his motorcycle club all dressed up as Santa on 14th December to go for a ride. There were more than 700 bikers involved in this annual charity event for Bear Cottage, raising more than $7000.
Joey has been involved in a number of Christmas charity motorbike rides due to his strong passion for the vehicles and enthusiasm to give back to those less fortunate. Last year he was involved in the Southern California ride in Huntington Beach where there were more than 2,500 bikers involved to raise money for a local children’s charity.
Every year the Sydneys Riders club will get together to raise money for Bear Cottage. Bear Cottage is the only children’s hospice in NSW, and in fact, it is one of two in the whole of Australia. It’s the only one in the world affiliated with a children’s hospital.
Bear Cottage is a very special place dedicated to caring for children with life-limiting conditions, and to make things a little easier for their families. It’s basically a home away from home – Staff do not wear uniforms, medical procedures are not carried out in the children’s bedrooms, their rooms are designed to be homely for the child with pretty colours and designs. How a child’s room should be. Bear Cottage has made sure they are as far removed from a hospital environment as possible, and it really is a relief for the children and their families.
That being said, Bear Cottage provides excellent paediatric medical care 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and have access to some of the best medical resources in the world. All of these amazing things are at no cost to the families who rely on care and support, Bear Cottage believe the families are going through enough as it is.
This charity hits a special place in the heart of the founder of the Sydneys Riders club, Greg, who does his best to make the events as large, exciting, loving and special as possible every year.
This event continues to grow year-on-year, and Joey has expressed how excited he is to see the turn out in December 2018.
